Sono Davide e ormai sono nell’ambiente da una ventina d’anni
Ho iniziato aiutando un mio amico che aveva ditta di insegne che mi ha insegnato a vettorializzare immagini e loghi per la creazione di adesivi. Da quella esperienza ho iniziato a crearmi da solo gli adesivi per la mia vettura.
Poi ho iniziato a creare adesivi anche per altri.
Quando la ditta con cui collaboravo ha chiuso, ho rilevato il software il plotter da taglio per coltivare questa passione.

I'm Davide and I've been in the business for about twenty years now
I started by helping a friend of mine who had a sign company who taught me how to vectorize images and logos for creating stickers. From that experience, I started making my own stickers for my car.
Then I started making stickers for others as well.
When the company I was working with closed, I took over the software and the cutting plotter to cultivate this passion.

Come è nata la tua passione per la realizzazione di adesivi?

Questa passione è nata nel periodo in cui partecipavo a raduni di tuning, alimentata dal desiderio di personalizzare la mia vettura. Poi ho iniziato a creare adesivi anche per altri

This passion born participating to tuning meetings, fueled by the desire to customize my car. Then I started making stickers for others as well

Come avviene lo sviluppo dell’adesivo?

How does the development of the adhesive occur?

Davide Medelin:

Lo sviluppo avviene con un costante confronto col cliente. Si parte da una bozza o un idea descritta dal cliente, viene fatto uno studio di fattibilità in base ali criteri fondamentali che sono la dimensione finale e dove verrà installato che poi viene sviluppata step by step con invio di bozze fino ad arrivare al disegno definitivo.

Oppure si può attingere a un catalogo che ho costruito nel tempo e che ora è arrivato a oltre 450 disegni, loghi e grafiche

The development occurs with a constant dialogue with the customer. It starts from a draft or an idea described by the customer, a feasibility study is made based on the fundamental criteria which are the final size and where it will be installed which is then developed step by step sending drafts up to the final design.

Che tipo di adesivi realizzi?

What kind of stickers do you make?

Davide Medelin:

Realizzo adesivi in vinile pre-spaziato lucido o, su richiesta del cliente, termico (per applicazione su tessuto) o altri tipi come ad esempi come adesivi con effetto satinato. Ma faccio anche molte altre cose come creazione di loghi e preparazione di file di stampa per bandiere o altro.

I make glossy pre-spaced vinyl stickers or, on customer request, thermal (for application on fabric) or other types such as stickers with satin effect. But I also do many other things like creating logos and preparing print files for flags or other

Come avvengono stampa e taglio degli adesivi?

How are the stickers printed and cut?

Davide Medelin:

Il taglio avviene tramite generazione di un file di taglio con programma apposito. Un plotter da taglio Roland appositamente progettato per il taglio delle pellicole realizza poi il taglio del materiale scelto dal cliente sulla base del file.

Cutting takes place by generating a cutting file with a specific program. A Roland cutting plotter specially designed for cutting films then cuts the material chosen by the customer on the basis of the file.

Gli adesivi pre-spaziati sono di solito monocromatici nel colore della pellicola che viene usata. E’ possibile avere adesivi pre-spaziati in più colori?

Pre-spaced stickers are usually monochromatic in the color of the film being used. Is it possible to have pre-spaced stickers in multiple colors?

Davide Medelin:

La pellicola utilizzata è monocromatica. Ma realizzare adesivi con più colori è possibile. Per realizzare adesivi a più colori basta che il confine tra i vari colori sia netto in modo da tagliare i vari colori e poi assemblarli nell’adesivo finale da applicare.

The used film is monochrome. But making stickers with multiple colors is possible. To create multi-color stickers, the boundary between the various colors must be clear in order to cut the various colors and then assemble them into the final adhesive to be applied.

Quali sono le dimensioni massime che riesci a realizzare e come?

What are the maximum dimensions you can make and how?

Davide Medelin:

Il plotter utilizzato ha una luce di taglio di 584 mm e, utilizzando l’adesivo su bobina, si può ottenere una lunghezza massima di 25 metri. Considerando che, ad esempio nelle scritte, i caratteri vengono tagliati singolarmente (essendo pre-spaziati), ogni lettera può avere dimensioni fino a 58cm X 25 metri. Nel caso di disegni più grandi si può dividere il disegno in più parti e assemblarlo durante l’installazione. Se si creano grafiche in più pezzi va tenuto conto che ogni pezzo rispetti una delle due dimensioni (larghezza o altezza) entro il massimo di 58 cm, mentre l’altra dimensione po' essere maggiore. Alla fine, con qualche trucco, tutto diventa possibile.

The plotter I use has a cutting width of 584 mm and, using adhesives on reel, a maximum length of 25 meters can be obtained. Considering that, for example in writings, the characters are individually cut (being pre-spaced), each letter can have dimensions up to 58cm X 25 meters. In the case of larger drawings, the drawing can be divided into several parts and assembled during installation. If you create graphics in several pieces, it must be taken into account that each piece respects one of the two dimensions (width or height) within a maximum of 58 cm, while the other dimension may be greater. In the end, with a few tricks, everything becomes possible.

Ci sono molti materiali per la realizzazione di adesivi, alcuni di scarsa qualità e altri eccellenti. Quali sono i problemi che si possono avere affidandosi a chi non usa materiali di qualità e tu che materiali usi?

There are many materials for making stickers, some of poor quality and some excellent. What are the problems that you can have by relying on those who do not use quality materials and what materials do you use?

Davide Medelin:

L’adesivo di bassa qualità ha dei problemi di installazione, cosicché la posa risulta più difficile. Il problema di vede poi nel tempo inquanto l’adesivo tende ad alzarsi facilmente e ha una durata molto limitata nel tempo. Io utilizzo vinili della Oracal, marca tedesca, che li garantisce in installazione verticale all’aperto per 2 anni (tipica insegna esterna). Questo significa che dopo questo periodo possono iniziare a presentare piccoli difetti come dei micro ritiri.

Low-quality adhesive has installation problems, so that laying is more difficult. The problem then arises over time as the adhesive tends to easily rise and has a very limited duration over time. I use vinyls from Oracal, a German brand, which guarantees them in vertical outdoor installation for 2 years (typical outdoor sign). This means that after this period they can begin to present small defects such as micro shrinkages.

Quanto tempo può durare un adesivo?

How long can an adhesive last?

Davide Medelin:

Dipende molto da dove viene installato e dalla vita della vettura. Su una vettura che viene lasciata sempre sotto il sole, un adesivo di qualità può durare oltre 3 anni senza problemi, su muro di casa non in battuta di sole un adesivo può durare praticamente tutta la vita.

It really depends on where it is installed and on the life of the car. On a car that is always left in the sun, a quality adhesive can last over 3 years without problems, on a house wall that is not in the sun a sticker can last practically a lifetime.

Ci sono problemi con il lavaggio dell’auto?
Are there any problems with washing the car?

Davide Medelin:

La vettura può essere lavata normalmente dopo che l’adesivo si è asciugato completamente. Ovviamente va prestata sempre un po’ di attenzione se ci sono piccole parti o sezioni con punte che possono tendere a staccarsi più facilmente.

The car can be washed normally after the sticker has completely dried. Obviously, a little attention should always be paid if there are small parts or sections with tips that may tend to come off more easily.

C’è differenza tra applicare un adesivo sulla carrozzeria oppure sul vetro?

Is there a difference between applying an adhesive to the bodywork or to the glass?

Davide Medelin:

Il metodo di applicazione è lo stesso

C’è differenza tra applicare un adesivo su un vetro dall’interno dell’abitacolo o dall’esterno? Realizzi adesivi per entrambe le applicazioni?
Is there a difference between applying an adhesive to a glass from inside the passenger compartment or from the outside? Do you make stickers for both applications?

Davide Medelin:

La differenza è nel gusto estetico del cliente, per la realizzazione e installazione è uguale. Diventa consigliabile l’installazione esterna in caso di vetri oscurati dato che con un’installazione interna il colore risulta più scuro.

The difference is in the aesthetic feeling of the customer, for the realization and installation it is the same. External installation becomes advisable in the case of dark glass since with an internal installation the color is darker.

Spesso gli accorgimenti per attaccare un adesivo sono semplici ma si possono commettere errori. Come si prepara la superficie della macchina per attaccare un adesivo?
Often the tricks for attaching a sticker are simple but mistakes can be made. How do you prepare the surface of the car for sticking a sticker?

Davide Medelin:

E’ fondamentale che non ci sia sporco, che rimarrebbe tra la carrozzeria e l’adesivo. L’accorgimento è dare una passata finale, sia alla carrozzeria che al vetro con un detergente (io uso un diluente al nitro) per rimuovere tutto e solo successivamente si può procedere con l’applicazione.

It is essential that no dirt is present, which would remain between the bodywork and the adhesive. The trick is to give a final cleaning, both to the bodywork and to the glass, with a detergent (I use a nitro diluent) to remove everything and only then you can proceed with the application.

Non tutti sanno che la temperatura è un fattore importante quando si attacca un adesivo. Quali sono le temperature che possono essere problematiche e in caso come fare?

Not everyone knows that temperature is an important factor when attaching a sticker. What temperatures can be problematic and, if so, how to do it?

Davide Medelin:

La temperatura impatta sui tempi di installazione e asciugatura. L’installazione deve essere sempre fatta all’ombra, se possibile, in quanto il caldo comporta un’evaporazione molto veloce dell’acqua che si usa per aiutare la posa e, quindi, si riduce il tempo utile per una posa accurata.Il freddo, invece, comporta un’asciugatura molto lenta e quindi la vettura deve essere lasciata ferma molto tempo per non rischiare un distacco dell’adesivoLa soluzione preferibile è installare all’ombra e poi parcheggiare al sole per asciugare

The temperature affects the installation and drying times. The installation must always be done in the shade, if possible, as the heat involves a very fast evaporation of the water that is used to help the installation and, therefore, the time needed for careful installation is reduced.The cold, on the other hand, leads to very slow drying and therefore the car must be left stationary for a long time to avoid the risk of the adhesive coming off.The preferable solution is to install in the shade and then park in the sun to dry

Un adesivo di piccole dimensioni è abbastanza semplice da applicare, ma come si applica un adesivo di grandi dimensioni?
A small sticker is simple enough to apply, but how do you apply a large sticker?

Davide Medelin:

Viene applicato bagnando sia la superficie che il retro dell’adesivo in modo da poterlo muovere una volta appoggiato. Poi si lavora di spatola dall’interno verso l’esterno eliminando le bolle d’acqua. In questo modo si può ottenere un risultato perfetto anche con adesivi di grandi dimensioni.

It is applied by wetting both the surface and the back of the sticker so that it can be moved once it is placed on it. Then you work with a spatula from the inside outwards, eliminating the water bubbles. In this way, a perfect result can be achieved even with large stickers.
